This post is my personal room review at the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. The Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana property is part of the Hyatt All-Inclusive collection and is located in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The Hyatt Ziva brand is the family-friendly all-inclusive resort while the Hyatt Zilara brand is an adults-only all-inclusive resort. The Ziva and Zilara Cap Cana resorts are located on the same property. The two resorts separate their rooms and amenities sufficiently so that the adults-only property is adults-only.
I traveled to the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic in February 2021. I have traveled in prior years to the Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall in Jamaica so I am familiar with the brand. However, I was anxious to see this Punta Cana property since it was fairly new (having only opened in November 2019). It didn’t hurt that the Northeast United States where I live was being hit by a rough cold spell at the time of travel. This made escaping to a Caribbean beach even more inviting.
This is the first part of a three-part review of the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. The other two parts of this review will be linked below once released:
- Room Review – Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana Ocean View Junior Suite (this review)
- Restaurants – Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Cap Cana
- Amenities – Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Cap Cana
One important note for this review is that this visit occurred in February 2021. During this time, travel was still depressed due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. While the facilities and amenities did not change due to COVID-19, some services at the resort did. I will make the best effort to identify the areas that were modifications of regular service due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Resort Layout
The Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana guest room buildings are laid out in a U or V shape, opening towards the ocean. The next-door Zilara Resort is also laid out the same so that the resorts appear to be a W from the air.
Each resorts has three buildings containing guests rooms. For the Ziva, these are:
- Building 1 – Further from the ocean and forms the base of the U-shape of the resort. This building also contains the lobby, most restaurants, and non-pool bars.
- Building 2 and Building 3 – Identical buildings which form the arms of the U-shaped resort. These extend towards the ocean and have oceanfront rooms on the end of the building. These buildings are almost completely composed of guest rooms. The only exception is a specialty restaurant located at the end of Building 3.
The Zilara side has the exact same layout with Building 4 containing the lobby and Buildings 5 & 6 composing the arms of the resort complex.
Ocean View Junior Suite King Room
I booked a standard Junior Suite King room when originally making the reservation for my wife and myself. Upon arrival, we were given an Ocean View Junior Suite King room. Hyatt constructed the resort such that almost every room has an ocean view. So while this isn’t the base room, this is the vast majority of the rooms available at the resort.
Our room was located in Building 2 about halfway along the length of the building. We were lucky to be assigned a room on the fifth floor so we were able to get a little better view of the ocean. Overall, I was pleased with the location of the room. While you can always hope for the complimentary upgrade, know that the ocean view room that makes up most of the rooms on the property are excellent so you can’t go wrong with room location.
Room Interior
Entry Hallway
Upon entering the Hyatt Cap Cana room, you first find yourself in the entrance hallway of the room.
Along one wall is located a large bank of built-in closets, drawers, and shelving. The room provides two large closets that should be big enough to accommodate all the hanging clothes that anyone staying in the room for a week or less could bring. In addition to closet storage, the center cabinet contains the in-room safe. The safe is a standard size, and while not huge I was able to fit my 15″ laptop inside.
Bathroom
On the opposite wall as you enter the room is the door to the bathroom. Perhaps I should rephrase that to say doors since the bathroom is separated from the hallway by two large barndoor-style sliders. The bathroom provides a double sink vanity with large decorative mirrors. The vanity has pretty of room around the sinks to accommodate all the toiletries that you brought. In addition, the hotel provides several toiletries in case you forgot yours. Their in-room provided toiletries include:
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Sewing Kit
- Shaving Kit
- Lotion
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Body Wash
- Bar Soap
- Hairdryer
During the COVID pandemic, a hand sanitizer bottle and package of disenfecting wipes were also provided. I would guess that these would not normally be provided when the pandemic subsides.
To the right of the vanity, the bathroom includes a large glass-enclosed shower. This shower provides both rain shower and handheld sprayer functionality. The temperature of the hot water and the shower pressure were both quite good.
To the left of the vanity, was a completely separate enclosed area for the toilet.
Bedroom
Moving further into the room brings you to the main bedroom and living area. This area is anchored by a large king bed with a decorative headboard feature. A bedside table is provided on each side of the bed. Plugs for phones are provided in or by each bedside table. The plugs provided in the room are “universal” plugs and accommodate Type A/B (US), Type C (Europe), and Type G (UK).
Directly across from the bed is the wall-mounted TV and mini-fridge and snack selection. All items in the mini-fridge and snack selection are free of charge and are restocked daily. The selection includes:
- Peanut M&Ms
- Pringles
- Coffee
- Bottles Water
- Coca-Cola
- Various Fruit Juices
- Beer (Presidente)
In addition to this a welcome gift of a bottle of wine and two cookies were in the room upon our arrival.
The bedroom area finishes with a long desk area with plugs for laptops and other electronic devices and a love seat and coffee table sitting area.
Balcony
The outdoor balcony of the rooms is variable based on where the room is located. However, the room we had provided decent sightlines to the ocean. Even though we weren’t oceanfront, the resort grounds are still beautiful and give the tropical feel when you are outside. The higher up you are the better of a view you obviously have.
Wrapup
All in all, the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana resort rooms are great. They are spacious and provide plenty of room to spread out. However, you likely don’t come to Punta Cana and the beach for the rooms. With the beach and all the amenities the resort provides, these rooms are more than sufficient for anyone’s needs.
Comment below if you have any questions about the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana rooms and I will do my best to respond. Also stay tuned for the next Hyatt Ziva/Zilara Cap Cana review post on the on-site restaurant options.
