About Colombia
Colombia is located in the northernmost portions of the South American continent. The country, unfortunately, earned a poor reputation due to drug trafficking and gang activity during the last 50 years. However, since 2005, there has been a marked improvement in the security and stability of the country. As a result, economic development and tourism are returning to the country.
Colombia offers a varied climate ranging from the Caribbean coast to the Amazonian jungles to the high-altitude mountains of the Andes. This varied climate and geography have landed Colombia on the top 20 list for most biodiverse countries in the world. While there are rural areas of Colombia that haven’t recovered from the violence of the late 20th century, the majority of the country is safe for tourists. Due to the relative lack of tourism, this country is ready to accept travelers from around the world. While it probably won’t be first on many people’s list, Colombia is a great place to visit when you’re looking for a destination a little off the beaten path.
