About Mexico
Lying just to the south of the United States of America, Mexico is a tropical destination most known for its beaches and historical Latin American civilizations like the Maya and Aztecs. It holds the title of the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world. The vast majority of the population is located in the center of the country which includes the metropolis of Mexico City. The arid regions of the north bordering the United States and the tropical areas of the south are sparsely inhabited.
The inhabitants of Mexico tend to live either wealthy lives or very pool lives with a very small middle class in between. Some of the squalid living conditions and corrupt local government have created a large amount of crime in some areas of Mexico. The tourist destinations tend to be more well protected from crime due to their economic dependence on safe conditions for tourists.
There are several great historical places to visit from the Mayan and Aztec civilizations. However, the vast majority of the tourist (95%) is leisure tourists. This means that overwhelmingly travelers are coming to Mexico for the beaches, pools, and warm weather. Finally, Mexico has a rich cultural heritage and great food. Mexican food tends to be made with simple ingredients and a lot of spices. You won’t find the flare of European foods (like Italian and French), but it is still very good and flavorful.
